BoopTap ("we", "our", or "us") operates the BoopTap mobile application and the getbooptap.com website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and authentication credentials via our third-party authentication provider (Clerk).
Device Information
We collect device identifiers, device model, operating system version, and app version to provide device management features and improve the Service.
Location Data
With your permission, we collect approximate location data (GPS coordinates, city, and region) when you scan an NFC tag. This data is used to show where scans occurred on your dashboard. Location collection is optional and can be denied at the operating system level.
NFC Tag Data
When you scan NFC tags using the app, we record the tag identifier, timestamp, and associated metadata. We do not read or store data from NFC tags that are not BoopTap tags.
Push Notification Tokens
If you opt in to push notifications, we store your device push token to deliver notifications. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings or the app.
3. Consent and Your Choices
Before we record scan activity, we ask for your explicit consent via an in-app consent screen. The consent covers collection of scan timestamps, approximate location (city-level), and device information for the purposes of activity feeds, statistics, and family sharing.
You may withdraw consent at any time in the app's Settings. If you decline or withdraw consent, you can still use the app but scan recording will be disabled. Existing scan data will not be deleted upon withdrawal of consent — you can request deletion by contacting us.
4. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- To display scan history, statistics, and activity feeds
- To send push notifications about tag scan events (opt-in)
- To enable family sharing features
- To communicate with you about your account and the Service
- To detect and prevent fraud or abuse
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:
- Family members — If you join a family group, members can see shared tag activity
- Service providers — We use third-party services for authentication (Clerk), hosting, and push notifications (Expo) that process data on our behalf
- Legal requirements — We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights
6. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us. Scan data may be retained in anonymized form for analytics.
7. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS), secure authentication, and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
